Stories from the Landscape

by Joseph Tennant

/
1.
leaves dance with the sun instilling thoughts of hope bubbling brook beside a traveller with no home i’m breathing, beholding, solitude september first, public park, i’m wandering within winds brush past my face as if to whisper news clouds above my head begin to change their hues i’m pondering, pervaded, restlessness scrambling, frantically, a labyrinth within autumn’s thinning air announces winter’s birth the future’s mind is blank and past’s remains a blur i’m pacing, panicking, bewildered nervously, stifling, anxiety within rising from my soul uneasiness appears yearning for a song with words that share my fears i’m healing, hoping, tranquility i’m seeking, finding, epiphany within
2.
thin mists grace the banks of athabasca they swirl and skirt between the driving snowfall ice sheets shift above the coursing river part ways beneath the boulder's grating pressure agitated by the snow the cold is gnawing on my bones mom prays earnestly to travel safely while dad fights the winter with a coffee asphalt hidden by a glassy glacier our car shudders like a nervous dancer captivated by the falls watch the road you'll kill us all spruce trees dance beside the freezing water ghastly beneath a blanket of macabre it's strange to be so tense amid creation eyes wide in wonder and in trepidation trembling upon the wheel four thousand pounds of screeching steel gripping panic, I react at least our limbs are still intact
3.
would it be a safe comparison that the marks on the road are a narrative a story of my embarrassment (and) the streaks left behind in my arrogance i'm in need of an ambulance my tears are awash in the dissonance oh please don't mean to bother you oh help me my weary limbs won't move crumpled as discarded canvases i feel the pain of the consequence bite my tongue, i’ve failed at portraiture and this sketch i've made is so amateur i'm in need of an artisan who paints with a grace and a diligence oh please don't mean to bother you oh help me my weary limbs won't move would it be a safe comparison that the marks on the road are a narrative
4.
winter's rage stops to say hello tendrils of his cold and wizened soul a long white beard, and antiquated cloak his booming voice, the way his laughter floats he digs his nails beneath my woollen sheets and with a smirk leaves me here to freeze winter's teeth glisten as he grins the song he sings, sends shudders through skin calloused hands precisely weave his piece foul breath, travels with the breeze he digs his nails beneath my woollen sheets and with a smirk leaves me here to freeze winter's tears trickle from his pain in agony writhing in the rain he bites his tongue determined not to scream with what's left composes one more scheme he digs his nails beneath my woollen sheets and with a smirk leaves me here to freeze
5.
landscape’s draped in monochrome it haunts me much too long the swirling snow disorients this season’s far too long jesus jesus, i need jesus oh my lord, help me through pockets worn with poverty dawned fraying threads too long daily bread is thinning out covering ache too long jesus jesus, i need jesus oh my lord, help me through jesus jesus, i need jesus oh my lord, help me through

about

Stories from the Landscape chronicles a long winter. As the outside cold begins to turn one bitter the beauty of a once gorgeous landscape becomes monotonous and the season becomes a prison sentence. The stories and songs represented in this album are meant to hold the hand of a listener through seasons of death and sorrow. These five quirky folk songs have the ability to transport the listener to a vastly different emotional landscape, shedding small rays of hope on the dark season of winter.
Stories from the Landscape is a salve for a bitter winter's day, a reminder that spring is on its way.
